Steps in Treatment

What are the steps in the treatment:

As the Ayurvedic system of medicine is strictly personalised, the treatment may vary from person to person.  The exact treatment can be fixed only after a detailed consultation with the ayurvedic doctor.  The treatment programme contain different forms of oil application on the head like scalp massage, dhara, sirovasthy, etc. application of herbal shampoos, Nasyam (putting oil through the nose), Vamanam (medicated emesis), virechanam (medicated purgation), fumigation with medicinal herbs on the hair, intake of certain herbal preparations, etc.

One of the steps on treatment:

Dhara (Shirodhara):

This is one form of oil application on the head. In this, a steady stream of oil is poured on to the head especially in the forehead in a particular pattern.  The other benefit of this treatment is that it is very good for the stress so that many factors in the cause of hair fall can be treated at the same time.

Shirodhara, by calming the mind, relaxes the entire physiology. Shirodhara is especially effective for those experiencing anxiety, insomnia, depression, and stress in general. Shirodhara reestablishes the functional integrity between these three doshic subtypes and thus helps to alleviate stress. Shirodhara stimulates the pituitary gland which helps bring hormonal balance. Through its balancing effect on the doshas and its stress relieving capabilities, Shirodhara enables the natural expansion of consciousness, thereby leading one to experience his/her natural state of bliss.

How is it beneficial:

The essence of treatment is the removal of the cause and avoidance of causative factors. Ayurvedic treatment does not mean suppressing the main symptoms and creating some new ones as side effects of the main treatment. It is to remove the root cause and give permanent relief. The medicines for the treatment mainly comprises of powders, decoctions, medicated oils etc. prepared from natural herbs and plants. Because the medicines are from natural sources and not synthetic, they are accepted and assimilated in the body without creating any side effects and on the other hand, there may be some side benefits

How to maintain the treatment effect:

The effect can be maintained by having a balanced diet and a regimen that does not vitiate the vital life forces (Tridoshas) are advised. Regular application of oil according to the dosha predominance is advised. In diet fried and very oily foodstuffs should be avoided and should have more green leafy vegetables. Drinking at least two litres of water every day is preferred.

How often to revisit:

During the initial days of the treatment, you will have to visit daily since there will be massages and oil applications. Usually this will be 7 days or 14 days or 21 days. After this the oil application can be done at home. Once in three or six months revisit is often advised to review the condition.
